I have been gardening for most of his life. My grandfather taught me about vegetable gardening in first grade, and it ignited a passion that has been with me for over 50 years. I started a YouTube channel, The Rusted Garden Homestead, in 2011 as a way to enjoy my hobby and teach others about gardening. It has grown to over 500,000 amazing subscribers, and I started a second channel, My First Vegetable Garden, a few years later to cater to first-time vegetable growers.
This website is a place for me to consolidate some of my collected videos, pictures and blogs posts from over the years to help people start their own personal gardening homestead journey. Please follow me here or on the links below, as new content is added regularly.
My belief is that a garden wants to give, vegetables want to grow, and everyone can have a successful garden. All you have to do is start, learn, and help it along. My goal is to provide information and options to fellow gardeners, to use as they see fit. There are so many ways to grow vegetables and raise a garden. I make my videos short and to the point, so you can get back out to your gardens and build your homesteads.
I am a retired clinical mental health therapist that worked at Johns Hopkins for over 15 years. I have over 30 years of experience in the field of mental health and wellness. Gardening provides a structure and routine that helps people reduce stress and enjoy life. The garden not only provides food but it allows me to focus on the beauty of life found in Nature. I hope to help others discover a passion and see the beauty in a garden.
I enjoy meeting gardeners from around the world through my social media. I see vegetable gardening as a global hobby that brings people together across cultures and geographical boundaries. I wish you success in your gardens!
